ADHD and alcohol: did your relationship with drinking change after being diagnosed/starting meds?

I’m (29F) curious if anyone else noticed a major change in their relationship with alcohol after starting their treatment with stimulants. Important context: I already enjoyed drinking before medication , and I absolutely don’t think meds or the condition are the only reason I developed an unhealthy relationship with alcohol. There are other factors involved. I’m also not trying to draw any scientific conclusions here - meds affect everyone differently. I’m just trying to understand my own experience. But I noticed a pretty significant change after starting meds, and weirdly, the higher my dose, the stronger the temptation seems to be. For me, alcohol feels like it “calms down” the anxiety/excessive hyperfocus from the stimulant without immediately taking away my ability to function. In the past, that combination became addictive enough that I sometimes drank during the day while working. (I don’t do that anymore, but looking back, it worries me) There’s another thing I have noticed socially: on stimulants, I seem to feel strangely resistant to the feeling of being drunk. I’d be chasing that tipsy feeling, not really getting it, so I’d just keep drinking. Then suddenly, my body felt everything at once and I would blackout. That happened many times and now I'm on my journey to quit drinking. I’ve discussed this with both my psychologist and psychiatrist, but I haven’t really gotten a clear answer about how much is ADHD itself, the medication, or the interaction between stimulants and alcohol. My therapists even say I should have felt the opposite, as in: the medication interaction can make you feel MORE tipsy than without it. I’m curious about other people’s experiences with ADHD and alcohol. Did your relationship with drinking change after diagnosis or treatment? How have you navigated it?
