Apologies for Existing

Preface: new here and new to adhd...at age 38 I have learned throughout life that I apologize too often. On more than one occasion, I have been told to stop apologizing. Now I am learning why! I am finding out that it is a common ADHD trait. Undiagnosed, I knew I had a hard time remembering things, keeping track of one thing for too long, feeling anxious - needing to escape crowded places, etc. I just felt bad and apologized for everything all the time and felt exhausted and confused, especially in romantic relationships. Now that I know what is happening, it's easier, but it's still not great. I know that it's polite to apologize and I still find myself doing it when I affect others. It's just the right thing to do. But sometimes I just feel embarrassed, sad, angry...that I can't just "fix" it. I've told my children before that you shouldn't apologize and then keep doing the thing you apologized for - apologies are meaningful when you plan to change the behavior. And here I am...not able to follow my own advice. It hurts. I want to know how you all feel about this.
