I cut off a close friend of mine who has combined-type ADHD and has willingly chosen to remain unmedicated for the last 50 years.

He reasoned that he could handle things on his own. He tried "self-medicating" with "recreational drugs", and it "didn't work". He's a bit of a conspiracy theorist who sees himself as knowledgeable, when really he's just a know-it-all. He's made a lot of poor decisions, like opening business after business that failed and wasting a lot of money because he can't focus on one thing. He dumps everything on me, talks nonstop, and it's overwhelming and exhausting. I want to help, and I was very understanding, but having to redirect him every single time wore me out. I had a heart-to-heart with him about reconsidering professional help, but he refused. He complains about everything, yet he's unwilling to take medication. Even after I set boundaries, his energy was still draining. I couldn't get anything productive done around him because he tried to insert himself into everything. I see my worst traits in him, and it makes me hate myself.
